Current Season

The Season Beyond Pentecost

During the church season after the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was given to the Apostles from the Lord. He convicts the world of sin by the word of the Law, He forgives sins and justifies sinners by the Word of the Gospel, and He bestows the faith that says “Amen” to this righteousness of God (John 16:8–11). Therefore, the Lord pours out His Spirit on the apostles, that by their preaching, the Spirit should be given to His entire Church. As the multitudes are gathered from all the nations by “this sound,” that is, by the preaching of “the mighty works of God” in Christ Jesus, so does God the Father pour out the Spirit of His Son “on all flesh” (Acts 2:6, 11, 17). The Lord God breathes upon the slain, and so shall they live; for so the Lord has spoken, and He shall do it (Ezek. 37:5–14).

What is Happening

Return to the Sacrament

As people who have been isolated and fearful, lonely and anxious, start to venture out into society, the Church offers that true fellowship ("the communion of saints") which is available most clearly and most certainly in the Divine Service of Word and Sacrament, where and when we gather as the Church on earth (but not only on earth!) to celebrate "the foretaste of the Feast to come." We do so with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are physically present with us, but also "with angels and archangels and all the company of heaven" (Preface for Holy Communion). There is no better gathering than this for us Christians! Pastor Vaughan
